Byron Hairdressing in Kirkcaldy broke its own fundraising record last Sunday by raising nearly £2,200 for Maggie’s Centre. Offering a combination of charity haircuts, fabulous raffle prizes and Thai neck and shoulder massages, the team topped previous years’ efforts with the mega final count of £2,188.

Local country crooner and chart topper Jackie Storrar showed her support by dropping in during the day to draw the raffle, which included a clutch of top prizes donated by local businesses. Jackie recently revealed her own fight against cancer and how Ronnie Marshall, owner of Byron, helped by styling a wig for her. In between pulling the raffle tickets, Jackie fitted in a quick neck massage from Byron’s temporary in-salon therapist and long-time Byron client Annette Burgess, owner of Sole~Soul in Dunfermiline.

‘I’m so proud of the team at Byron, they have been amazing,’ said Jackie, who held two sell-out concerts recently to raise money for Maggie’s. ‘The atmosphere has been fantastic.’

For the past decade the team at Byron have held a regular day to raise funds for Maggie’s, which provides a unique and innovative programme of information and support to people living with cancer, their families and their friends. This year, all the appointments were snatched up immediately, while hundreds of clients and local people called in to buy raffle tickets.

‘The local support has been overwhelming and I’d like to say thank you to everyone who came along,’ said Ronnie. ‘But I would also like to say thanks to all of my team, who were incredible in giving up their Sunday and making it such a fun day.’

As well as giving up their free day to offer haircuts in return for donations to the charity, the team also created a party atmosphere by dressing up ultra-glam and offering clients lucky enough to scoop one of the coveted appointments pink Champagne and pink cupcakes. Haircare giant L’Oréal also stepped in to make it even more special by donating products for goodie bags.
